About AHEAD

AHEAD gave birth to a new industry as the first tutorial and review center to be run as a full-fledged business and not as a home-based, one-person “sideline.” The company turned the hole-in-the-wall business of tutorials and reviews into a significant and active enterprise, serving as a model to the hundreds of smaller tutorial centers that have mushroomed in Metro Manila in recent years.

Thanks to AHEAD, tutorial and review services are now associated with winners and high achievers. By selecting young go-getters to represent its programs, it has dramatically changed the way students, parents, and even schools view supplementary educational services. These programs have become a necessity for learners to reach their full potential and gain a competitive edge in school, in the workplace, and in life.

With its programs constantly being patterned by others in the industry, AHEAD has become the recognized authority when it comes to complementary education. Its president is frequently invited by major TV, cable, and radio networks to speak about academic test preparation, youth development, and educational leadership. As a learning company, it has been featured by national broadsheets and top magazines.

AHEAD’s initial and core business is its review for college entrance exams. It is the first to focus on preparation for the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and the University of the Philippines admission tests, which are regarded as the most competitive in the country. It introduced the concept of “Test-Based Review” or courseware designed for specific exams. AHEAD’s review programs not only provide the academic information that students need in order to pass the exams, they also mold students to embrace the value of quality education not only for their individual ambitions but for the nation’s development as well.

Since its inception in 1995, AHEAD has been advocating an idea. It deliberately positioned tutorials as advancement programs and not as remedial sessions. It overhauled the hoary notion that tutorials and review classes are for underachievers. This paradigm shift that AHEAD introduced opened many opportunities for the youth. No longer do young people feel helpless when faced with academic challenges. Honor students and class leaders are now enrolled in tutorial and review classes, driven by a desire to stay ahead of the rest.

AHEAD published the first-ever review book for the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) and the first college guides “With Honors” and “Planning Ahead”. Its publishing arm, AHEAD Books & Things, continues to produce student resources to complement and enhance AHEAD’s programs. A series of “Score Higher” books will soon be available digitally and in print.

In its over 15 years of service, AHEAD has helped prepare tens of thousands of students for the brightest opportunities. It places much hope on the youth as the inheritors of the world. It believes that at the earliest age, students must be molded to become well-informed individuals with global perspectives. By assisting today’s youth in gaining admission to the finest academic institutions, AHEAD is consequently preparing future leaders to someday assume roles of global citizenry.

Through AHEAD’s efforts, parents and their children understand the importance of attaining quality education from the world’s best schools. It actively crafts opportunities for students to enter these institutions and guides parents in encouraging their children to develop their full academic potential and mental capacity through varied programs that promote healthy competition and fresh intellectual insight.

Recognizing the central role of school principals and supervisors in improving the quality of education, AHEAD has devised leadership programs through its training division AHEAD Professional Network (AHEADPro). Such programs aim to help school owners, principals, administrators, and teachers lead their schools to overall progress and long-term growth. These are conducted by educational and management experts from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University System, and the Asian Institute of Management as well as by chairpersons of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU). The seminars have drawn attendees from various parts of the country, including deans, directors, and members of religious congregations who run leading private schools.

Recognizing its role in the nation’s development, AHEAD extends scholarships for review courses to public high school students who otherwise would not be able to attend review classes due to financial constraints. To date, AHEAD has offered hundreds of grants to deserving young individuals.

The expansion of AHEAD’s reach from the youth to the young-at-heart served to bring its high level of quality learning to professionals. AHEADPro helps professionals and adult learners become world-class citizens and works with local and multinational companies in training their employees to meet global standards of excellence. It serves to inspire individuals to continuously improve and enhance their talents as they trek varied career paths.

AHEADPro also organizes a series of seminar-workshops for school administrators called “Leadership Strategies for School Managers” (LESSM) and a similar program for teachers, “Teaching Strategies for Student Achievement” (TESSA). Both series feature the most respected academicians from the country’s top universities. These have been attended by educators from various schools all over the Philippines. In 2009, AHEADPro ran a series of LESSM seminars on the use of information technology in school management with the Philippines Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Department of Education, and Smart Schools for over a hundred public school principals and division supervisors in Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio, and Metro Manila

When AHEAD opened its doors to franchising–another first in the industry–it also opened windows of opportunities to entrepreneurs with the same passion for youth development and education.
