Youth rules. This was the cheer that filled the activity center of Glorietta as MTV Philippines teamed with Ahead Learning Systems, Inc. for a whole day of fun and entertainment, dubbed “Get Ahead Gimik @ Glorietta.”

The event was graced and hosted by new MTV VJs Derek Ramsay and Anna Shier.

This was a way of giving back to the youth the support that they’ve been extending to us all these years. This was no ordinary party for them because it was a gimik (a gathering of friends for merriment) with a purpose. We wanted to be a part of important youth-oriented events to let them know that MTV is with them in fun as well as learning activities,” said MTV Philippines marketing and communications director Rod Nepomuceno.

The “Get Ahead Gimik @ Glorietta” served as the registration party of the MTV and Penshoppe Youth Council spearheaded by Cali in cooperation with I-Academy. It is a nationwide search for 10 most outstanding youngsters in the country who embody the MTV and Penshoppe spirit: exuberance for life, positive outlook, leadership, creativity, dynamism, concern for others and a great personality. The deadline for submission of entries is the second week of February.

Hundreds of students from Ateneo de Manila, Miriam College, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, St. Scholastica, Poveda, St. Jude, St. Paul, Xavier, and JASMS, to name a few, trooped to Glorietta.

Student groups wowed the crowd with exciting cheering squad and band performances. Top band Sandwich and K-24/7 amplified the party mood.

MTV also joined the students for an extended gimik in an all-night disco party, this time with Warner Music providing the beat for the hyped crowd.

Major sponsors of “Get Ahead Gimik @ Glorietta” included Maybelline, L’Oreal plenitude, L’Oreal Studio Line, Feria, Ralph Lauren, Emporio Armani, Apple Philippines, Meg Magazine, Forward Magazine, Bausch and Lomb, Don Henricos, WorldPrep, iAcademy, Human Concepts, Kolin Home Appliances, Warner Music, John Robert Powers and ABS-CBN Foundation.
